Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin knowns as M.K. Stalin was born on 1st March 1953 as the third son to the prominent Dravidian leader and five-time chief minister of Tamilnadu, Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi and his second wife Dhayalu ammal in Chennai, Tamilnadu.

Stalin was named as Karunanidhi’s heir apparent by him. M.K. Stalin is the Working president of the party DMK.

Political career.

1967 – M K Stalin’s political career began as a 14-year-old, he campaigned in the 1967 elections for his party DMK.

1973 – He was elected to the General Committee of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

1976 – He was arrested under MISA act during Emergency and was attacked brutally by the police.

1984 – He was appointed as Youth Wing Secretary of the party. Contested in Assembly elections from Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai and lost.

1989 – He was elected as MLA of Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai. He won in the big margin against AIADMK’s Thambidurai and made his debut into Tamil Nadu Assembly.

1991 – Lost in state assembly election from Thousand Lights constituency.

1996 – He was elected as Mayor of Chennai. He was the first directly elected Mayor of the city.

1996 – He was elected again as MLA of Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai.

2001 – He was elected as Mayor of Chennai for the second time continuously.

2001 – He was elected as MLA of Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai for the third time.

2003 – He was elected as Deputy General Secretary of his party DMK by the General Council of the party.

2006 – For the fourth time, he was elected as MLA from Thousand Lights constituency, Chennai. Became Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural development of the state.

2008 – He was elected as The Treasurer of DMK by the General Council of the party.

2009 – He was promoted as Deputy Chief Minister of the state. He was the first Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

2011 – Despite four times continuous victory from his previous constituency Thousand Lights, He moved to Kolathur constituency, Chennai this time and elected as MLA from there.

2016 – He was elected as MLA from Kolathur constituency, Chennai once again and became The Leader of the opposition of the Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly, representing the strongest opposition party ever in the history of Tamilnadu assembly.

2017 – He was elected as Working President of his party, DMK by the party’s General Council.

2018 – Stalin was elected as President of the party DMK by the party’s General Council after the demise of the party’s president Kalaignar M Karunanidhi.

2021 – Stalin contested Tamil Nadu assembly election from Kolathur constituency and registered victory. He also led the DMK to a successful run in 2021 assembly election and got elected as the leader of party in the legislative house.

He become the chief minister of the state on 7 may 2021.

Lesser known facts about MK Stalin.

He was born in an influential political family of Madras (now, Chennai).

Stalin got linked to the politics at a very young age. He was just 14 when he first campaigned for DMK in the 1967 Polls.

He first came into the eyes of media when he was arrested under MISA for protesting against the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi Government.

Stalin was an actor and film producer in the Tamil Film Industry till the early 90s.

After his appointment as the Secretary of Youth Wing, it became one of the largest political youth organizations in Tamil Nadu.

He became the first Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2009 and served till 2011.

In 2013, party leader Karunanidhi declared Stalin as the future heir of the party.

In 2016, after Jayalalitha‘s death, Stalin openly accused V.K Sashikala of Jayalalithaa’s death.

After the demise of his father on 7 August 2018, he demanded the burial of his father’s mortal remains at the Marina Beach, which was granted by the Madras.
